Handholds and Lacing

Lacing
One aspect of lacing the handhold that few people realize is that Right or Left hand lacing really doesn't make any difference in how the rope will ride. The concept of lacing to follow the palm line is to help counter the stress put on the handhold and riser and to hopefully help them last longer.Lacing, of course, comes in Full, Full/Skip, All Skip, Three-fourths, and Half, and they all still have their place according to a riders style and preference.
- Full Lace Handhold:makes the stiffest handhold and last a long time.
- Full/SkipHanhold: gives the rider a little more "give" in the handhold, but will last as long as the Full Lace. The Full Skip is likely the best all-around choice for lacing, and is used by many of the seasoned hands who know they need some give.
- All Skip Handhold: is still very popular. The All Skip in more for the rider who wants a lot of flexibility and who will likely ride on his knuckles. The All Skip Laced handhold will not last as long as The Full or the Full/Skip, but the riders who need them must except that it is a trade out - pure function suited to the rider for a little less longevity.
- Three-fourth and One-half Lacings: are less common. These handholds are usually ordered, from very seasoned riders who just plain realize that they need a lot of give in their handholds and know the handholds are not going to last as long.
Risers
The rise in a handhold is crucial to the function of the rope and should be a very personal matter to the rider. We can make the Rise as low as 1" up to as high as 3 1/2 ".The 1" rise is going to pull tighter quicker and give less of a ready exit. The 3 1/2 " rise is going to be harder to pull and give a lot of exit -maybe too much exit too quick. A good happy medium is the three finger rise which is apprx. 2 1/2". We do not like to make a rise over 3". We will do so on a request, but will not guarantee the rope, as the handhold is likely going to turn over completely in a short period of time.
