Plaits

The plait of the rope means the number of the actual plait (pieces of separated rope compromised from original strands of the coil of rope). Plaits come in 5, 7, or 9. This designates the feel of the rope not necessarily the width of the rope.
  • 9 Plait is the stiffest/hardest feel
  • 7 Plait is slightly less stiff than the 9 (call it medium)
  • 5 Plait, even when braided tight gives a softer feel

    Extra soft, soft or tight?

The plaits come in extra soft, soft, and tight. This is how loose or tight the tail is braided and also affects the width and the feel.
    • 9 Plait should always be tight
    • 7 Plait works well when braided, extra soft, soft or tight
    • 5 Plait is the best choice for soft and extra soft, simply because there are fewer plaits (pieces of rope) to squeeze together with your wraps
